Building Cleaning

Building Cleaning Methods

We invest and use the most up to date range of cleaning systems and equipment available, this ensures that we consistently deliver on time projects and achieve high value cost effective pricing for our clients.

Super-Heated Low-pressure High Steam Cleaning

DOFF is a stone cleaning system for use on hard surfaces to remove unwanted grime and coatings. It uses low pressure high steam of up to over 120 °C to remove pollutants and surface contaminants, along with some non-gloss paints.
The hot steamed water quickly removes algae, moss and other unsightly organisms. The steam is used to kill off the growth spores which reduces the need for chemical cleaners and severely limits re-growth. The use of steam allows the surface to dry quickly, and is an ideal cleaning system to avoid the use of high pressure jetting where water droplets are forced in to any porous surface, and can subsequently become frozen in harsh winter periods causing spalling of brick, masonry or stone. It is also used to remove some paints from historic render, brick, masonry and stone.
APT have recently launched a new version of the low pressure high steam cleaning system. We call it Hot Box Cleaning. It has been designed by our site operatives and engineers; they believe through strict trials that it has all the attributes of the doff cleaning system with added benefit of higher steam values, extra control and more consistent delivery of steam over longer hose runs. It cuts down on our labour service costs and therefore it is a more cost effective option for our clients.

Dry and Wet Blast Cleaning

We use a state of the art range of blast cleaning systems which include superheated low-pressure steam equipment, wet and dry blast cleaning, eco soda blast cleaning and dry ice blasting which means we have the ability to tackle the toughest jobs in all areas of industrial and commercial cleaning - taking the least amount of time, with safety of surface being at the heart.
APT industrial water jetting solutions range from the removal of algae and moss from brick and stone, to cleaning bridges, commercial buildings, factories and warehouses. We can provide high level exterior cleaning using our superheated low pressure steam systems such as doff and APT's newly developed Hot Box System for even more efficiency  to clean all types of buildings, car parks, tennis courts, play areas, roadways, paths, steps, forecourts, cemeteries, boat hulls and almost anywhere that has a build-up of grime and unwanted pollutants.
This is the ideal cleaning system for internal machinery cleaning where intrinsic parts and equipment can be easily cleaned without the need to dismantle or protect adjacent surfaces.

Soda Blast Cleaning

Soda blasting is a revolutionary cleaning technology that is not only extremely safe, quick to carry out and cost-effective, but is also environmentally friendly. This is why this non-destructive cleaning process is fast becoming the preferred method for cleaning and stripping unwanted pollutants and contaminates from an array of surfaces such as timber, metals, structural concrete and all stone and masonry.
How does soda blasting work?
It’s very simple. It uses specially formulated granules of natural bicarbonate of soda, and blasts of controlled volumes of compressed air. The bicarbonate particles explode or crush on contact with the surface, and this non-abrasive action allows it to lift away any contaminates from a surface. It can quickly and safely remove years of built up pollutants, residues and unwanted coatings from virtually any surface. Soda blast cleaning can be used for both interior and exterior building cleaning, historical buildings and in industrial engineering to clean components without damage or water. This system can be used wet or dry to ensure the most versatile approach to every project. Soda blast cleaning can strip paint and remove just about any unwanted surface coating. It will clean sensitive stone and all masonry and remove graffiti without causing damage to the host surface.
Blasting soda is an extremely soft media with about the same hardness as talcum powder (2.4 on Moh’s hardness scale) and will therefore not cause damage to harder surfaces.
It is used in historic property restoration to clean and remove unwanted surface deposits from:
·         Stone including sandstone, limestone, York stone, Portland stone, slate, marble cleaning, terrazzo and granite
·         Flagstone flooring & path ways
·         Cast iron ,bronze and statues or monuments
·         Fountains and ornamental sculptures
·         Ceramics and glazed tiles
·         Glass and stained glass
·         All ferrous & non-ferrous metals including anodised aluminium, stainless steel, brass, copper and bronze
·         Plastics & nylon components
·         Rubber & neoprene
·         GRP, fibre glass & plastic coatings

Tim Donovan – Managing Director for Horan Construction Ltd – Tenby Boat House Project

“APT were very instrumental in helping us solve a major problem. We really couldn’t see a way out of our situation without spending thousands and using a lot of resources, until Andrew came onto site and offered some very practical advice not only about Soda Blasting but other aspects of the job. We saved time, money and got the finish we wanted with the added benefit of it being environmentally friendly, so we kept the planners happy too! Really happy to work with a professional team and thank you.”

TORC Blast Cleaning

Up until a few years ago TORC blast cleaning technology was the safe way to clean and strip unwanted coatings from stone and masonry surfaces. APT still uses this blast cleaning process; however, we have in the last few years superseded this service with more effective Soda Blast cleaning.
The TORC system was the upgraded version of the JOS cleaning system. The recently enhanced TORC system now uses a vortex swirling blast head to deliver the blast media combined with a mixture of low air pressure, water and blast media to deliver effective cleaning of stone and masonry surfaces.
How does it compare to blast cleaning?
APT’s soda blast precision blast clean system, can be used wet or dry to deliver precise amounts of blast media accurately through a vortex II blast head. The APT highly complex system allows us to work down to blast pressures of just 1/2 bar, which is ideal for cleaning sensitive or soft friable surfaces. Conservation architects are now choosing this as their preferred choice when it comes to historical restoration projects.
Most alternative systems such as TORC are limited to using only the Calcite 130 blast media which has a hardness of around 4.0 (soda being 2, similar to talcum powder) as the apparatus will not facilitate the use of eco soda blast media. We do not recommend this to be used to clean limestone.

Dry Ice Blasting

What is dry ice blasting?

Dry ice blasting, also known as cryogenic cleaning provides you with a rapid, non-toxic and economical solution for almost any application. Down-time is minimised as there is no need for dismantling or disassembly, nor must you wait for equipment to cool down.
This is particularly advantageous to industries using hot-moulding techniques – moulds can be cleaned in-place, resulting in greater productivity. You can operate right up to the moment our dry ice blasting team arrive and restart again even before their dry ice blaster is loaded back into the van!
The only waste that requires removal is that which has been removed since the dry ice simply sublimes and returns to the air. You benefit from shorter cleaning times than with conventional methods.
Dry ice cleaning is particularly suited to the food industry and cleaning applications such as aircraft turbine blade cleaning where water or the presence of a blast media would cause problems.

What are the Advantages of using APT as your Cryogenic Cleaning Contractor?

·         Initial site visit to assess the scope of your project
·         Customised cleaning programme to minimise disruption to your daily routine
·         Fully trained operators
·         Over 25 years of experience and expertise in the cleaning industry
·         Efficient and courteous service
·         One-off or maintenance cleaning contracts available

Traditional Steam Cleaning

Steam cleaning is a specialist technique that is used to remove heavy residues of grease or charred remains from industrial plant and equipment and production areas in factories and heavy industries. It is an effective way to get dirt and contaminants out of most surfaces. Our steam cleaning services will remove many ground-in stains other cleaning methods simply can't.

We specialise in steam cleaning as part of our deep clean services. We have used steam cleaning services in some of the UK’s leading industrial companies to completely clean and sanitise surfaces meeting the strictest of health and safety guidelines for cleanliness.
